Requirements
- Apply and get approval before removing any lawn.
- Mulch the converted area.
- It's a voucher, not cash: up to $300 per residential meter for compost and mulch from the City's vendor, delivered to the curb (at least 4 cubic yards). Labor isn't covered.
- Owners of homes on City water apply first; a project started before approval doesn't qualify. Front and back yards count; the strip between the street and sidewalk doesn't.
- Cover the lawn with cardboard or weed fabric within 60 days of approval and send a photo; the City then issues the voucher, good for 60 days, toward 4 inches of mulch first and then 1 inch of compost.
- The City may photograph the property and use the photos for outreach.
Steps, in order
- Apply on City of West Sacramento’s site and wait for approval. Lawn removed before approval usually does not qualify.
- Remove the lawn and plant to the requirements above.
- Send what the program page asks for once the work is done.
