SSWD Grass to Garden Rebate

Requirements

• Apply and get approval before removing any lawn.
• At least 25% of the area in low-water or native plants.
• Sign up for a pre-inspection survey (a Water-Wise House Call) before applying; an onsite post-inspection follows.
• Replace living, irrigated lawn with low-water or native plants, gravel or mulch; low-water turf alternatives and groundcover count. Artificial turf, and plastic or tarps for solarizing, are not reimbursed.
• The rebate pays back receipted costs: materials, rented equipment, and up to $150 of a licensed landscape contractor's labor (C27, C36 or an applicable A license). Your own labor is not reimbursed.
• Irrigation upgrades to an existing in-ground system (high-efficiency nozzles, drip, pressure regulation, SWAT-tested weather-based controllers, rain or soil-moisture sensors, flow sensors) count only alongside the lawn replacement, within the same $2,250.
• One rebate per customer, meter or property; first come, first served until funding runs out, and applying does not guarantee a rebate.

Steps, in order

1. Apply on Sacramento Suburban Water District’s site and wait for approval. Lawn removed before approval usually does not qualify.
2. Remove the lawn and plant to the requirements above.
3. Send what the program page asks for once the work is done.
