Requirements

  • Apply and get approval before removing any lawn.
  • A green or golden-brown lawn with full thatch attached
  • Minimum 200 sq ft, maximum 10,000 sq ft
  • Desert-friendly plants and permeable surfaces with at least 25% plant canopy throughout the converted area (existing plants don't count)
  • Artificial turf projects are acceptable
  • Apply and receive pre-approval before starting; first come, first served
  • Upload: CVWD account number, photos, a landscape plan with a plant list, HOA approval if applicable, W-9

Steps, in order

  1. Apply on Coachella Valley Water District’s site and wait for approval. Lawn removed before approval usually does not qualify.
  2. Remove the lawn and plant to the requirements above.
  3. Send what the program page asks for once the work is done.
