Greenfield Water Lawn Removal Rebate

Requirements

• Apply and get approval before removing any lawn.
• Mulch the converted area.
• A separately valved drip system for the converted area, in good working order, free of leaks and designed to avoid runoff; pop-up sprinklers in the converted area removed or capped, and any landscape left nearby on its own valve.
• Single-family homes only; the applicant is the property owner or an authorized agent, at a property the City of Greenfield serves.
• The city approves the project, the landscape plan, the plants and the permeable surfaces before any lawn comes out, and inspects the site before and after.
• The lawn must be well kept and watered by an in-ground system that works; hand-watered lawn, or lawn removed before the pre-inspection, does not qualify.
• Replace it with very low or low water use plants, or permeable surfaces such as mulch, decomposed granite, flagstone, gravel or permeable pavers. Turf seed, sod, vegetable gardens, medium or high water use plants, concrete, decking, pools and similar do not count.
• Cover planted areas with at least 2 inches of mulch; any weed barrier under it must let air and water through.
• New construction does not qualify.

Steps, in order

1. Apply on City of Greenfield Water’s site and wait for approval. Lawn removed before approval usually does not qualify.
2. Remove the lawn and plant to the requirements above.
3. Send what the program page asks for once the work is done.
