SCV Water Lawn Replacement Program

Requirements

• Apply and get approval before removing any lawn.
• Drip, or qualified high-efficiency nozzles with pressure regulation and a smart controller calibrated to them; equipment types cannot be mixed within one irrigation zone (the program table says point irrigation does not qualify, while the program facts list it; the Design Guidelines decide). No artificial turf.
• Authorization and a pre-inspection come before any grass is removed, and a post-inspection after; computer, internet and email access are needed to take part.
• The grass must be alive and in place (dormant grass counts, bare soil does not); plans show all the grass removed in each irrigation zone in the project, and partial removal in phases of full zones is allowed.
• At least 50% plant cover at maturity; artificial turf is not funded; the new landscape is kept for 10 years.
• Front, side and back yards, hillsides and parkways qualify. Anyone in the Design Assistance Program finishes it before applying.
• Pilot add-ons: water retention features (rain garden, bioswale, terracing) and sheet mulching $1.00 per sq ft; a bee hotel and an owl box up to $50 each; rain barrels up to $75 each, two per meter.

Steps, in order

1. Apply on Santa Clarita Valley Water Agency (SCV Water)’s site and wait for approval. Lawn removed before approval usually does not qualify.
2. Remove the lawn and plant to the requirements above.
3. Send what the program page asks for once the work is done.
