Azusa Light & Water Turf Replacement Program

Requirements

• Apply and get approval before removing any lawn.
• Replant with low-water or native plants.
• Include a rain garden or other stormwater feature.
• Mulch the converted area.
• Azusa Light & Water customers inside Azusa city limits, with service for at least 6 months; customers outside the city apply through SoCal Water$mart.
• Before removing turf, send the application with at least 5 'before' photos, a simple landscape plan and a recent water bill to Azusa Light & Water, 729 N. Azusa Avenue, Azusa, CA 91702, (626) 812-5225; approval takes about two weeks and fixes the reserved rebate. Finish within 180 days.
• Remove at least 250 sq ft, or all the turf if less. Plant at least three drought-tolerant or California native plants per 100 sq ft, with 3 inches of mulch and no bare soil; the area must stay permeable and include a rainwater-capture feature (rain garden, rock garden, rain barrel, river bed, swale, berm or grading).
• Synthetic turf, live turf and invasive plants don't qualify. Send at least 8 'after' photos to claim; a taxpayer ID is needed over $600, and the check is void after 90 days.

Steps, in order

1. Apply on Azusa Light & Water’s site and wait for approval. Lawn removed before approval usually does not qualify.
2. Remove the lawn and plant to the requirements above.
3. Send what the program page asks for once the work is done.
