Requirements

  • Apply and get approval before removing any lawn.
  • At least 50% of the area in low-water or native plants.
  • Mulch the converted area.
  • Remove or cap sprinkler heads in the converted area; drip, hand watering, or low-application sprinklers with CCWD's approval.
  • For single-family, multifamily, commercial and institutional customers with metered landscape water in CCWD's retail and wholesale service area: Clayton, Clyde, Concord, Pacheco, Port Costa, Antioch, Oakley, Pittsburg, Bay Point, Martinez and parts of Brentwood, Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek.
  • Apply and wait for CCWD's Notice to Proceed before removing any lawn; CCWD may inspect before and after. Finish within 6 months, and keep the new landscape for 5 years.
  • Convert at least 300 sq ft, or less if it is 100% of the lawn. The lawn must have been maintained; brown from watering cutbacks is fine. A site can take part more than once up to its maximum.
  • At least 50% plant cover at maturity from CCWD's Approved Plant List; artificial grass and concrete together at most 20%; at least 2 inches of mulch on bare soil.
  • Remove or cap the sprinkler heads; water by drip, by hand, or by low-application sprinklers if CCWD approves. A W-9 is needed for rebates of $600 or more. Questions: (925) 688-8320.
