Pleasanton Water Lawn Conversion Rebate
As of October 20, 2026, City of Pleasanton Water pays $2.00 per square foot of lawn a home replaces through Lawn Conversion Rebate, up to $3,000. New applications go on a waitlist.
The terms and the application are the same as Zone 7 Water Agency’s.

Requirements
- Apply and get approval before removing any lawn.
- At least 50% of the area in low-water or native plants.
- Mulch the converted area.
- Apply with a plan and plant list and wait for a Notice to Proceed; lawn removed before approval does not qualify.
- At least 100 sq ft of front lawn visible from the sidewalk, or 200 sq ft in back, currently watered by sprinklers.
- At least 50% of the area covered by low-water plants when grown; no artificial turf, plastic weed barrier or mortared hardscape.
- The rebate covers materials (plants, mulch, compost, permeable hardscape, drip parts), not labor. Finish within 120 days; keep it at least 2 years.
- The City has also offered its own $0.50 per sq ft on top (up to $575, at most half the material cost, planting September to February) through its Eco-Friendly rebate application; that part isn't confirmed here, so the estimate leaves it out.
Steps, in order
- Apply on City of Pleasanton Water’s site and wait for approval. Lawn removed before approval usually does not qualify.
- Remove the lawn and plant to the requirements above.
- Send what the program page asks for once the work is done.
